Social media can be a strange place. I get asked the MOST random questions ever. However, the most frequently asked random question is “How do you get your armpits so light?”. Before Instagram I never even realized I had light armpits (the things we take for granted, right)? The funny thing is, I actually do have an “armpit” routine that has become so second nature I don’t even think twice when doing it. As a black woman, underarm hyper pigmentation is a real issue, so I’ve come up with a routine to decrease my chances of getting it.  A vital part of that routine is my Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant…because what is an armpit routine without an exceptional antiperspirant.
Below are a few tips to get better looking pits:
• Exfoliate your underarms- many of us forget to do this. Dove’s Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba warns not to over exfoliate. “Over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its essential oils, leading to breakouts in the dryer, colder months. A misconception is that rubbing off dead skin cells daily will improve skin, when it actually can dehydrate it.” I exfoliate 2-3 times a week.
• Use your face products on your pits. I realize this sounds CRAZY, but it works. I’m talking toners, masks, creams… the works. These things help even out your skin tone and if you’re trying to combat hyperpigmentation a good mask is your best friend.
• Don’t skip the sunscreen. Dr. Barba says “Harmful UV rays don’t take a break for cold weather. Even if you’re bundled up, sunscreen is a must for your face, and any other skin that’s not covered up.” This means sunscreen those pits if they’re exposed. Sun exposure is the number one cause of hyperpigmentation.
• Hydrate your skin. Moisturize your underarms like you do every other part of your body. Dove Advanced Care not only provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection, it also has added skincare benefits and is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer & smoother underarms.
