I’ve heard women say “I don’t hang out with women, it’s too much drama”. I’ve never understood this. Surrounding myself with likeminded women is how I keep grounded. They are the anchors in my life, and sometimes they are the very ships that save me from drowning myself.

Erykah said “I pick my friends like I pick my fruit” and I bank on this same belief. My friends are a reflection of who I am: They are soft yet firm, beautiful but resilient, both smart & silly, aware yet carefree. What’s so special about friends is that YOU have the power to choose them. If there are women in your life who are not uplifting, motivating, and being honest with you (even when it hurts) maybe it’s YOU who needs to take better care in cultivating a Tribe that is a truer reflection of yourself.

Why is it important to have a Tribe? For me, the women in my life have become closer than most of my family. They are my warriors and my sisters. We have provided each other with prayer, babysitters, meals, homes, clothes, tears, truths, knowledge, laughter and everything in between. It takes a village to birth a dream, and I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am in life had it not been for the women I call friends.

Birds of a feather flock together— make sure your flock is a majestic one.
