13 Feb HFR Takes LA

Hello Lovers!
Last weekend I had the pleasure of going to Harlem’s Fashion Row STYLE BEAT here in LA. It was the first time in it’s 7 year history that the show has come to LA, and I was thrilled to be a part of this history in the making.
Kevin Hall, Waraire Boswell, Joseph Bethune, and Kimberly Goldson were the featured designers. What’s so great about HFR is that they allow designers of color to showcase their collections and thus introducing the masses to phenomenal designs from people of African descent. Every collection was completely amazing in it’s own right.
I had the chance to meet and speak with Brandice Henderson, the founder and CEO of Harlem’s Fashion Row. Her bubbly personality and ambitious spirit commands a necessary attention. She looked stunning in her Byron Lars dress, and stated that one of her style icons is Tracee Ellis Ross, which is something we have in common. I asked her what advice she has for anyone chasing a dream or pursuing a passion. Brandice confidently responded by saying, “Consistency is key. You have to realize that at some point things are out of your hands. You have to take leaps of faith. It’s very hard to grow any business by being safe.” Verizon Wireless was able to help bring Brandice’s passion to life as a partner for the event ( even scored a MUCH needed portable charger from Verizon in a gift bag). So, dreamers take a lesson from someone who had a vision and who has seen it come to fruition.
Everything about the event from the venue to the designers and the sponsors was amazing. Thank you so much HFR for inviting me out. If you guys want to know more about Harlem’s Fashion Row of course visit their site.
I’ll be posting what I wore to the event in just a bit!
