The relationship between blogger and photographer is much like any other relationship. It’s a partnership that requires communication, trust, and certain levels of comfort and vulnerability. Every photographer isn’t meant for every blogger. Every blogger doesn’t work with a photographer, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I shoot a lot of my content myself, on my phone. I have also spent a good portion of my career harassing my friends, family, and lover to take my pics. No matter how my pictures get taken my overall preference is to work with an actual photographer. Oftentimes they can see things that you can’t, and I’ve found it extremely beneficial for the overall quality of my work. So, how do I do it? How do I find the PERFECT photographer for me?
  1. Sleep around. Okay not literally. But, test different people out. See how they shoot. See if you guys vibe on a personal level. It’s very hard to capture great images if you aren’t comfortable with the person you’re shooting with. I tend to always shoot with women photographers fo this reason. I feel like they understand the female body and angles, and I’m just much. Ire myself in a feminine environment.
  2. Know what you want. It’s always great to have an idea of what you’re trying to achieve aesthetically, and then find photographers who naturally fit that. If you don’t know what you want your content to look like, it’s very easy to get images that you don’t like. I send a mood board to every photographer I work with before we shoot. This gives them an idea of what types of colors, angles, and imagery I’m trying to capture. I leave nothing to chance.
  3. Check who other influencers work with. Most influencers tag their photographer for a reason, so that they can be found. Check out who your favorite influencers are shooting with, and reach out to that person. This works in your favor because not all photography is the same. Someone may be great at shooting landscapes, but not so good at capturing outfit images. If a photographer has a track record for shooting whatever type of influencer you are, there’s a good chance they will be able to shoot photos that you like.
  4. It gets better with time. I tend to find someone I love shooting with and never leave them. It takes time for them to know you and what you like. It also takes time for you to let loose and start feeling completely comfortable with them. Overtime you’ll be able to creatively collaborate, and your aesthetic will reflect that.
