Can men and women be friends? It’s an age old question, and the answer varies depending on who you ask. If you had asked me this last year I would have confidently replied with a “Yes, of course.” But these few short days in 2013 have changed my mind. Friends, both same sex and opposite sex begin a friendship for many of the reasons people begin relationships, and the only thing that is lacking from a friendship is the initmacy, both sexual and spiritual. I have learned over the past 4 days that sometimes what is thought to be intimacy by one party may, in fact, not be that at all.

I am still trying to discover the definition of a “friend” and what responsibilities one takes on when being called as such. Does being a good friend require constant, daily communication? Does it even mean that you are always  obligated to respond to texts and phone calls?

In all honesty the “friends” who recently broke up with me were not friends at all, and I’m not saying this out of bitterness. They were cheerleaders, hypemen, that I selfishly kept around to make me feel better about myself.. and they finally caught on to my game.

Note To Self: Start being completely brutally honest with yourself as well as others.
