Hello Lovers,

I took a trip to New Orleans a couple of weekends ago for the Essence Fest. As a self-proclaimed professional wanderluster, I travel often. The “get up and go” itch I get needs to constantly be satisfied.  Although none of them ever feel like home, I find comfort in each place I visit. New Orleans is an exception to this. In all of my travels, I have never felt more at home than I do when I’m in this city. The culture, the people, the food, the architecture they all work together to create this mecca of southern charm. New Orleans is my favorite city, and one day (soon) I would like to live there. For now, here is my photo diary from my trip. Below I highlight some of my favorite places to eat, stay, and play. If you want to see more from my trip be sure to checkout my New Orleans Travel Vlog on my YouTube Channel.

WHERE TO EAT:
-Acme Oyster House
: The one in the French Quarters is obviously close to everything and the food is AMAZING. However, if you want to avoid the long lines and wait times I suggest going to the one in Metairie…which is right outside of the city. The fried oysters are my top pick here.
– Cafe Du Monde– You can’t visit New Orleans and not stop by the world famous Cafe Du Monde for beignets. They are open 24 hours and the earlier or later you go the quicker you can get in and out.
-Cafe Beignet – Although not as popular as Cafe Du Monde, the wait isn’t as long and the beignets are equally as good. It’s closer to the French Quarters and the atmosphere is very quaint and less touristy.
-Killer Poboys– Poboys and Louisana go together much like peanut butter and jelly. You can’t visit the Gulf and not get a poboy. Killer Poboys uses all locally grown and caught ingredients. The food is AMAZING, the lines aren’t long, and it’s located in the French Quarters.. so walking is an options.
– Street vendors– There are all sorts of street vendors in New Orleans and I have NEVER been disappointed with their food. It’s always cheap, quick, and tastes great.

WHERE TO STAY:
I stayed at the beautiful Dauphine Hotel which is right in the midst of the French Quarters. It has that old New Orleans charm, free breakfast, and it’s practically walking distance from everywhere you want to go. The staff was incredibly accommodating. There is a bar on site, and the hotel…..well…. it may or may not be haunted.

THINGS TO DO:
Bourbon Street is a MUST. There are so many bars, so much food, and an endless amount of foolery to be seen.
– Rent bikes from RideThisBike. To rent a bike for 24 hours was well worth $35. It was the quickest and most cost effective way to cruise around the city. Not to mention we looked really groovy riding through the streets on bikes.
-Compac General Store- whether you need tampons because your period started unexpectedly,  swishers for blunts, painkillers, or snacks… this place has it all. The bonus? It’s in the French Quarters and thus is walking distance from everything.
Dauphine Street Bookstore– Right across from the Dauphine Hotel is this quaint little bookstore. I scored 3 classics and could have walked away with many more. It’s a book lovers dream, and the type of store you only see in movies. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This may have been the highlight of my trip if it weren’t for:
City Park– I have no words to even begin to explain the magic I felt here. The oaks trees, the bridges, the essence of the old south, the stories this park must hold. It felt surreal to be here. If you go nowhere else, go here.

New Orleans is a magical city. If you have never been, I urge you to go. Let her know Victoria sent you.
